Would you really know what someone meant if they told you that you need to not give away your power? I got that message a few times in the past weeks. I was told that I have a habit of giving away my power and that I needed to shift into a place of holding my power steady, and firm, no matter what was going on around me. I listened to their words and interpreted them in my own way, but it wasn't until a sequence of magical events led me finally to the book Jaguar Woman by Lynn Andrews, that I truly understood what I was being told.
When we give away our power, we come from the position of, oh I hope they like me, or, what can I do to get them to like me. When we hold onto our power and OWN our power, we come from the position of, prove to me that you are worthy of ME, or, let me see if I like THEM.
Now I bring these up because we are learning a brand new way of loving others. And over the next year as this energy plays out, you will either be starting a new (very satisfying) relationship, ending a mismatched relationship, or deepening the bonds of an existing (very satisfying) relationship. And if you have been single for a while, then you are someone who is about to begin anew. And if you have been in relationships, one after the other recently, then you can expect to be separating and going on your own path for a spell before you find your next truly matched partner. If you are in a relationship and still find your partner funny and fascinating, then you can expect to go deeper with the roots and even more securely grounded within the partnership. This is magic partnership time.
And the power comes in especially for the ones just beginning a relationship in these times of new high vibrating love. I haven't finished the Jaguar Woman yet, but one thing that I loved that resonates with these times, is that we are all learning, both males and females, about the divine feminine, the highest vibrating form of feminine energy. And if you haven't taken the time to discover and own your power, through much inner work and honest examination and acceptance of the dark and light sides within, then essentially he will end up "destroying" you. Basically this just means, he is looking for the Goddess, that you do have the potential to be, but if you are just giving away your power and attempting to be only what you think will please him and get his approval, then over time the truth will come out that that was all a prop and the relationship will fade away, and hearts will be broken. But if you come into the relationship with your power intact, such as from the stance of, show ME that you are worthy of me and let me the female see if I even really like who you are all about, then the dynamic changes and the foundation for a potential divine partnership begins. The one common denominator that I have seen in successful long term partnerships is a very strong independent woman. There of course is time for the clinginess and I love you baby, but, the core of these women is that they can stand alone and stand their ground.
Now holding onto your power is something you will be doing in your everyday world interactions. This is also when you come around others that are doing what you wish to be doing or that have what you wish to have, and when you feel things like jealously. When you are jealous of another you are giving away your power. When you belittle yourself by thinking they have it more together than you, then you are giving away your power. When you are jealous of someone elses gifts, then you are giving away your power. When you feel insecure, you are giving away your power. When you mean to say NO, but you say YES, to please someone else, you are giving away your power. See what I mean.
I had an empowering moment the other morning when I went to spin class with my friend and it was a place we haven't been to in over a year, and ended up in a class with a new instructor neither one of us knew. The man was pretty cocky, to put it mildly, but you know, each his own. So at one point in the middle of a song he just jumps off the bike and comes straight up to us, in the back row far corner, as we tried to hide out. "I'm Jerry!" is how it started and he reaches for my friends hand to shake an introduction. Then he gets to me and I just smile. I didn't extend my hand and I didn't say my name. He gave a bit of an exasperated throwing his hands up expression and walked off. I was like, dude, I'm busy. Please leave a message. Me and my friend just looked at each other like, what?! and laughed. But then it made me feel really good and powerful because without flinching I didn't cave. I was busy. I am in the middle of working out and I don't want my sweaty hand to touch your sweaty hand and then I touch my face and get grossed out. Boundaries! THAT is a perfect example of holding your power. When you keep your power, you don't just do what everyone else expects of you to do.
So is holding on to your power another way of saying, being a bitch? Maybe. Or at least that is how others see it, because we females are so conditioned to just make everyone happy and do as we are told. Making everyone happy translates to giving away our power. I had an ex boyfriend recently say what a bitch I was now. I was like, no I have always been a bitch, but in past partnerships I did tend to be rather subservient and very much a pleaser and like begging to just be loved. Yes, yes, baby, anything for you! So now all those ex's after years of failed relationships come looking for me thinking they can have that good life back. And what do they find... a bitch with a strong opinion who says it like it is and isn't afraid at all to say no, unacceptable, not gonna happen. So if holding onto your power means that you are a bitch, then I better start capitalizing Bitch, because it is the greatest honorable path to walk. Holding onto your power is keeping it real and being true to YOU.
So what is the message of the Transit of Venus? It is the call to own your power, to accept your powerful influence on the world, to not shy away from living your truth, to be all you can be, to love every morsel of your body, to accept every perfect piece of your personality, to be YOU as the fullest expression of honesty and vulnerability, to live as Goddess or God, and of course, to do it all with Love as the base coat.
