And the only safe bet that you are NOT eating GMO's is by keeping it organic. Where does all that plastic go that isn't recycled and re-manipulated into something reusable? It certainly doesn't break down. It is a permanent thing. It is something in 100 years someone will discover, like we find arrowheads and hieroglyphics, and they will wonder what the heck this strange colorful thing is. At least that is my hope, that one day soon the plastics will disappear from our world and we will instead use things like hemp or potato starch, which breaks down and becomes a part of the earth, naturally. But until then, we use and abuse the plastic. How many plastic lids are you tossing in your trash daily? How much plastic travels through your hands as a mere container with a moments lifespan. You buy the plastic wrapped veggies, even if they are organic, and into the trash the plastic wrap goes. We just don't think much about that reality. We have at least gotten conscious of the six pack plastic wraps that we now cut apart so that no sea otters or birds or turtles end up with them wrapped around their heads for life. But the story goes deeper. The truth of the situation is grotesque. The birds that you will see in this movie are eating all the plastic that is just thrown on the ground for someone else to deal with; and they are dying with that plastic still and forever in their guts. This is our next step of awakening consciousness. We must pay attention more to how we dispose of things that we no longer need. Throwing things in the trash with little thought as to where they go next, is no longer the acceptable route. I am personally going to make the effort to look at everything I buy with the extended thought process of what will be left over when I have gotten all I can out of it. This will mean buying mostly from bulk or farmers market and bringing my own containers to hold it all. Also there is only buying things that make plastic from corn or potato starch. The chocolate shop I work at only uses the corn start biodegradable bags and corn starch spoons. It is completely possible to go plastic free and unless we want our selfishness and unconsciousness to be back-lashed on the innocent fish in the sea and the birds that give us such joy to be around, then we have to wake up and make the changes. Just think about it. Look around you in this moment at all the plastic holding your food goods. If you can recycle it then, awesome, do just that, but if it can't be recycled and you can't reuse it for something, then just don't contribute to this enormous problem and instead choose to buy another product that considers sustainability instead of exploitation. http://vimeo.com/25563376 KA here: This is pretty dang disgraceful. But the part that is so disturbing is that he was fired, but then the charge was reversed and they reinstated him and gave him all the back pay that he lost from being fired. They claimed it was not a justifiable reason to fire the dude.
